Suggested Response:

• A number of transportation energy corridors exist in Canada. Pipeline and transmission line companies are using existing rights of way to minimize the impact on the environment and communities, and facilitate regulatory approvals.
• There are multiple factors to consider in evaluating the feasibility of an energy corridor, including impacts on Indigenous communities and landowners, environmental impacts, as well as costs and timelines.
• The Government of Canada is determined to see good projects get built, including the Trans Mountain Expansion project, LNG Canada, the Manitoba-Minnesota Transmission Line, Keystone XL, and Line 3, which will connect Canadian resources to new markets.

Background:

Discussion on an energy corridor, which would allow the movement of natural resources and energy through the country, has garnered considerable attention over the course of the last few months.
